Minister of the Armed Forces Admiral Sigfrido Pared Perez said yesterday that the support being provided by the Armed Forces to the National Police within the Comprehensive Public Safety Plan will continue as long as it is needed. According to the El Caribe, Admiral Pared Perez noted that the National Police are undergoing a major reformation and their new chief, Major General Manuel Castro Castillo, is introducing a series of changes that are going to produce positive results. He added that the Armed Forces has a unit known as the Ciutran Task Force, that had 700 members when he became minister and now has 1000. He said the plan is for the Military Police (the Ciutran) to reach 2000 members, brigade strength, and have it used as a permanent support for the National Police in the big cities. The admiral noted that there had been a 50% reduction in crime since the Public Safety Plan went into effect.
