Some injuries and damage following earthquake

Following the earthquake yesterday, Monday 15 July, which registered 5.1 on the Richter scale, details are coming in of minor damage to buildings and injuries to people.

According to the Center for Emergency Operations (COE), three people were injured by falling objects and Juan Pablo Duarte, aged 65, broke his ankle when he jumped out of a second floor window.

In San Francisco de Macoris some buildings were cracked, as well as a school.

In Pimentel, cracks appeared in a Catholic church, a warehouse, shops and houses but there was no damage to the electricity or phone services.

In Arenoso, Duarte province, there are cracks in the hospital.
