The director of Customs, Fernando Fernandez ordered the revoking of tariff increases affecting export free zones and banana exporters. The measures had been ordered by Resolution No. 007-2012, dated 7 December 2012. He said the fees would revert to those ordered by Resolution No. 006-2007, dated 9 February 2007. The announcement came after banana exporters complained the rising red tape costs were making it too costly to export.
A report in Hoy also criticizes other increases in costs that are affecting producers and exporters. It indicates that Customs inspection costs have increased in some cases 1,000%.
