Blackout at Las Americas International

A lightning strike at Las Americas International Airport yesterday, Thursday 18 July, caused a blackout that lasted for 26 minutes, affecting airport operations. Air control and navigation activities were able to continue because they run on a separate circuit. However, administrative offices, restaurants and duty free shop operations were halted. Emergency systems illuminated the migration, customs and check-in halls, but work there was also affected, as well as cargo operations.

There were delays in the departure of Delta Airlines to New York and the arrival operations of JetBlue, in from New York. Migration, customs and X ray security operations were also affected.
