Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Thursday 18 July the secretary general of the Santo Domingo city government (ADN), architect Andres Navarro, said that the change in management of the Duquesa Dump will cause delays in garbage collections. He said that city residents should not put out garbage on Fridays, to prevent it from piling up on the streets. The Santo Domingo North city government has retaken the management of the dump from the Brazilian company Lajum Corporation, arguing the company has not fulfilled the contract stipulations for installations and waste management.
He said the change in management closed the dump and this has caused three-day backlogs in the city trash collection service.
