At the swearing in of the Strategic Development Plan for La Vega council members at the Salesian Institute yesterday, Wednesday 25 July, President Danilo Medina spoke of government efforts to prevent crime across the whole country with the installing of surveillance cameras in the streets to help the Police identify and arrest criminals. He called for society to put pressure on the legal system to stop releasing criminals so quickly, as on many occasions the biggest problem was not catching the criminals but letting them out of jail too easily.
He also announced that the 911 emergency telephone system would be installed before the end of the first quarter of next year, so that people would begin to believe in the authorities and so that any emergency affecting anyone could be dealt with.
