Santiago prosecutors determined that the former priest of the San Antonio de Padua parish in Juncalito, Santiago used a fake identity to leave the country. He is sought for an investigation into accusations of child sexual abuse, reports acento.com.do
The Polish priest was known as Father Woiciech (Alberto Gil) for those who lived in Juncalito. Neither are his real name.
In May he was accused of sexual abuse of dozens of children that served in the parish as altar boys. Acento reports that the Catholic priest had around 180 children in his “care” and offered trips to the beach and even to Poland with all expenses paid if they behaved “well”.
Acento reports a source in the General Attorney Office confirmed the Polish priest had abandoned the country using a double identity, which has made it difficult for the authorities to obtain his real name to bring him to justice. So far the Catholic priest has refused to return to face the allegations by dozens of parents.
The plan is to request his extradition from Poland, a country with which the DR has a treaty for the extradition of refugees of justice. Woiciech would be declared in default after he did not present himself to the prosecutors to answer to complaints against him.
Acento said that the prosecutor of Santiago is still waiting for a certificate from the Department of Migration on the departure of the priest and his non-return. The source said that they seek to find the specific day in which he would have traveled. The source says there is no departure using the name Woiciech Gil on the flight the youths that supposedly accompanied him had traveled on.
Identity forgery would be another charge for which the Catholic priest could be charged, says the source.
The Catholic Church in the Dominican Republic has not issued a statement on the accusations. Acento reports, nevertheless that the priest was suspended by the Superior for the Caribbean of the order Miguelitas.
