According to the executive vice president of the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE), Ruben Jimenez Bichara, the heatwave that is affecting the Dominican Republic has resulted in a 25 to 40% increase in electricity consumption.
As a result, CDEEE bills with generators have increased by US$150 to US$200 million dollars a month.
He spoke about the rising costs during the launch of the World Bank-supported Voz Electrica online pilot program established so that consumers can report situations about their electricity services (see www.vozelectrica.org).
