The president of the Food Retailers Federation (Fenacodep) Jhovanny Leyva is asking shopkeepers to absorb any price rises caused by the recent fuel cost increases. Leyva said that these costs are yet to be reflected in product prices. In fact, he called on them to try and reduce prices to motivate consumers to buy more.
Leyva was talking following a meeting with President Danilo Medina yesterday, Wednesdy 31 July at the Presidential Palace along with other presidents of business federations and associations representing some 60,000 members.
During the meeting, the business representatives expressed their satisfaction with the economic measures being implemented by the government, which, in their opinion was contributing to the reactivation of the economy, which they had felt during the last 40 days.
Leyva said that some prices of basic products had decreased such as rice, which was between RD$18.50 and RD$19 and today was between RD$17.50 and RD$18 pesos. Also plantains had decreased from RD$15 to between RD$5 and RD$7. Eggs had also gone down in price from RD$5 to RD$4 or RD$4.5.
