Rafael Gonzalez Alvarez was sentenced yesterday, 5 August 2013 to 18 years in jail for the homicide of 55-year old businessman Guillermo Moncada Aybar, over a residential parking space in an apartment building complex. He was ordered to serve his term in La Victoria jail.
Moncada’s widow, Yuli de Moncada, said the family would appeal seeking that the maximum sentence of 30 years. Gonzalez is known to have pumped 12 bullets into Moncada. The widow also expressed her concern that Gonzalez could escape the La Victoria jail. The murder occurred 2 November 2011.
In the crime that will be always hard to explain, Moncada Aybar was murdered when assisting his niece. His niece’s private tutor inadvertently had parked in a parking space belonging to the father of Rafael Emilio Gonzalez Alvarez in the Residencial Xiomara in Piantini. Guillermo Moncada was visiting his sister, and Gonzalez murdered him after he interceded on her behalf after Gonzalez pushed her to the ground, according to witnesses. A neighbor, Ivette Saba said at the time that when Guillermo Moncada reached the scene, Gonzalez did not give him a chance to talk and fired the fatal shots. She said that when Moncada was injured, Gonzalez fired three more shots at his head. The Police confiscated a 9mm Glock gun that he used with a permit.
Gonzalez left the scene of the crime and was subsequently arrested. Moncada is survived by his widow and three children.
