The Dominican Republic has a favorable trade balance with Canada, which led foreign investments at US$5.34 billion from 1993-2011. As reported in Hoy, Dominican exports to Canada were US$283 million last year, compared to imports of US$128 million.
Dominican ambassador in Canada Jose Urena says that export of medical instruments has increased by 50.6% since 2009, vegetables and edible roots are up 95.7%, citrus fruit and melons 49%, tobacco and tobacco products 50.9%, footwear 109.2% and coffee and teas 144%.
