The Minister of Industry and Commerce Jose del Castillo Savinon said yesterday, Monday 13 August that the government is open to dialogue with the transport union leaders and could meet with them before Thursday, 15 August, the deadline set by the transporters who have threatened to strike if their demands are not met.
Castillo Savinon said that that he did not understand the motives behind the planned strike because the transporters have received more subsidies than any other public or private entity.
He said that they received 3.8 million gallons of subsidized fuel worth RD$2 billion, which was given to them by the government to guarantee the stability of transport prices.
