San Cristobal judge Jesus Mejia granted conditional release to former banker Ramon Baez Figueroa.
The judge set that Baez needs to present himself on the last Friday of each month to the Court of Appeals of San Cristobal to sign the book of those out on conditional freedom. The court ordered he reside in the Torre Libertad in Santo Domingo and that Baez cannot leave the country. The judge also bans Baez from visiting places that sell liquor.
Baez Figueroa, notably moved at hearing the decision, said that he had lived difficult days separated from his family and his father.
Several opposed his release prior to completing his 10-year sentence on grounds that the bank collapse had impoverished millions of Dominicans.
