Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Wednesday 14 August, the Public Prosecutor for Puerto Plata, Alba Nunez, defended the actions of the Public Prosecution office in the raid carried out in la Mulata III in Sosua, where a German man died and other foreigners were injured, and she denied that they had acted negligently.
She said that the prosecutors could not enter the villa that belonged to Peter Brunk, as when they got to the front door together with the police they were met with gunfire from two of the Germans who were inside, and that they did what they had to do to ensure their safety.
She said that she supported them 100% as they were not police, they did not break doors down and they did what they had to do, which was to save themselves from being shot.
She said that that they had to abort the raid because they were in danger and that they were not there when the money was taken, not when the German and the Haitian were shot.
She went on to say that no one has seen any evidence that the two safes, supposedly taken from the residence, had contained RD$60 million. Nunez claimed that this has only been mentioned by the Germans and their lawyers and that the Germans could not produce any evidence, not a bill, certificate nor document, even though they have had six months to provide it.
She said that the Public Prosecution service worked with facts, not rumors, and when discussing the weapons that had been confiscated she stressed that the Dominican state had never allowed permission to own and carry high caliber weapons such as the M-16 rifle which the Germans apparently owned, although she agreed that the other guns did have permits.
Two colonels linked to the alleged robbery, Raymundo De La Rosa Ogando and Roberto Santos Salcedo are expected to face charges.
