The director general of the Santo Domingo Water and Sewer Corporation (CAASD), Alejandro Montas says that a problem found in a 30-inch valve has kept 19 sectors from receiving water for the last day and a half, since Saturday 17 August. The problem is expected to be resolved before midnight tonight, Monday 19 August. The official said that the valve is located at the water tanks at Kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway, and affects the sectors of La Venta, Holguin, Barrio Enriquillo, Buenos Aires, Olimpo, Villa Aura and Barrio Antillano. He said that Los Proceres, Los Pinos de los Rios, Los Guayabos, Don Honorio, El Condado, Cristal, Los Angeles, Los Hidalgos, El 14 and Pradera Hermosa were also affected by the breakdown.
“We personally went to see the valve removed and we sent it to a workshop and we urged them to deliver it before noon on Monday, in order to proceed with its installation and restore service,” he said. Montas added that they have increased water tank truck services in order to supply the affected families.
