The Ministry of Agriculture is promoting its scholarship program for students who are interested in a career in farming. The ministry is offering these full scholarships to the Higher Agricultural Institute (ISA) in La Herradura, Santiago, and they include tuition, fees, accommodation and food. The program is open to both men and women who have graduated from secondary school. Minister of Agriculture Luis Ramon Rodriguez pointed out that there is a shortage of qualified professionals in the area of farm production, especially now that there is such an emphasis on high-value crops grown under climate-controlled conditions. According to Listin Diario, 90% of students in the field are pursuing degrees in Agricultural Engineering and 10% are going for degrees in Veterinarian Sciences.
