First DR heart transplant patient doing well

A 23-year old mother of three, Estefany Moreno, was the recipient of the Dominican Republic’s first heart transplant at the Plaza de la Salud General Hospital over a year ago, on 19 July 2012, and an article in today’s Hoy newspaper, Tuesday 20 August 2013 reports on her progress. Her heart defect was discovered when she had her third child, and she would have died if the timing for the transplant had not been right. The medical center says that RD$4 million has been spent on her medical condition, covered by the First Lady’s Office. The funding began when Margarita Cedeno was First Lady. Moreno has three children aged 8, 5 and 2. She lives with her mother in a house rented for her by the First Lady’s Office, which is also her employer.
