Architectural find in the Colonial City

The remains of a rampart were discovered yesterday, Wednesday 21 August in Jose Gabriel Garcia Street, where it joins Merino Street in the Colonial Zone, when the authorities were carrying out excavation works as part of the plan to transform the area.

The wall is thought to be the remains of the rampart built to protect the old city of Santo Domingo was buried below the road and continued under the buildings in the area.

Several teams of archaeologists from the Ministry of Culture observed the ruins. Efforts are being made so that the movement of the heavy machinery does not affect the historical find.
