President Danilo Medina has pledged that the nationwide classroom shortage problem will be solved with the ongoing program to build 10,000 new classrooms for this school year. He said that they should be finished by the end of the calendar year, adding that repairs to many other classrooms would also be completed. The President said that work was underway to build the food halls and kitchens for schools where classes will be extended to a full day. President Medina was speaking yesterday, Wednesday 21 August when attending the vigil for 103-year old Mercedes de Castro, mother of former Vice President Rafael Alburquerque.
The government plans to build and repair 28,000 classrooms during Medina’s four-year term, as part of the National School Building Plan.
