The Dominican Republic’s Luguelin Santos came second in the Diamond League’s 400m event held yesterday, Thursday 22 August at the DN Galan Stadium in Stockholm. LaShawn Merritt from the US maintained a comfortable lead over his competitors to clock 44.69 seconds to win the race. Santos clocked 45.25 to Pavel Maslak of the Czech Republic’s third place making 45.33. Santos, who won the silver medal in the event at the 2012 London Olympics, won the bronze in last week’s IAAF Moscow Athletics World Championships, confirming once more that he is a world-class competitor.
In Stockholm, Mariely Sanchez, the first Dominican woman to compete in the Diamond League, came fifth in her heat, with a time of 11.43.
