Some newspapers are reporting up to 50 cases of cholera in the province of San Cristobal. The Public Health Ministry provincial director said that the number of cases at the Juan Pablo Pina Hospital is increasing daily. Hospital director Miguel Geraldino called upon the Minister of Public Health, Freddy Hidalgo Nunez to play an active role in suppressing this new outbreak. The latest patients include a young pregnant woman and the director said that her entire family was suffering from the disease. According to the mayor, Raul Mondesi, the water supply in the barrio of Pueblo Nuevo has been polluted by sewage. To complicate matters, the water treatment plant at Samangola is out of service.
