More pesos to the dollar

The value of the dollar to buy has increased by RD$4.17 in a year and to sell by RD$3.42. On Monday 27 August 2012 it stood at RD$38.18 to buy and to sell at RD$39.18. This Monday, 26 August it was RD$42.35 to buy and RD$42.60 to sell n a difference of barely RD$0.25.

The Central Bank has said that it will intervene to reduce the volatility that has been seen recently and says that there is no monetary or fiscal reason for this.

It says that the US dollar has been strengthening across the world but that the depreciation of the Dominican peso at 3.9% so far this year has been lower than other countries in the region like Argentina (10.3%), Brazil (9.1%), Uruguay (9.1%), Peru (8.5%), Colombia (6.3%) and Chile (5.3%).
