The Ministry of Tourism reports that the German airline Condor and the TUI tour operator will be adding six new direct frequencies from Germany. Five of the weekly flights will be from Munich and Hamburg at the start of the 2013-2014 high season. The Ministry of Tourism says the flights will begin in November 2013. Three flights will be direct Condor connections from Munich to Punta Cana, and TUI will add two more weekly flights to Punta Cana. A third TUI flight will land in La Romana starting in November also.
Travel from Germany is increasing. In July travel from Germany to the DR already increased 20% compared to July 2012. Petra Cruz, director of the Tourism Office in Frankfurt said that the increases are the result of good communication strategies and cooperation with the leading market players implemented by Minister Francisco Javier Garcia. Germany is the second largest source of European tourists for the Dominican Republic after France.
