Apparently Jose David Figueroa Agosto, the Puerto Rican drug lord arrested in the Dominican Republic several years ago has begun to tell the authorities just how he was able to launder money for so many years. As a result, his lawyer Ramon M. Negron Colon has been arrested by US Immigration and Customs officers (ICE) on money laundering charges. According to the elnuevodia.com website in Puerto Rico, Negron Colon’s arrest came after Figueroa Agosto testified before a Grand Jury on Friday 23 August. The website says that testimony from the well-known capo, known in his native Puerto Rico as “Junior Capsula,” against his former associates who helped him in the Dominican Republic live for ten years, is part of a deal he made with the authorities.
Meanwhile, when Hoy reporters asked Peravia senator Wilton Guerrero about the case, he said that some of the “big fish,” including generals with links to drug trafficking, have not yet been touched by Justice. He attributed the increase in crime here to the fact that the authorities have not yet reached the bottom of the matter and that the National Drug Control Department operated as an international drug trafficking cartel for a long time. When asked if there would be arrests in the US with the advances made in the Jose Figueroa Agosto case in Puerto Rico he told the journalists: “Bigger fish should have fallen here, but for the same complicities of the institutions, and the investigators, the bottom has not been reached to determine responsibilities.” He reiterated his claim that many generals are linked to drug trafficking.
