Dominican fashion designer Sully Bonnelly will be showing his Chacabana collection at Dominicana Moda this year. Chacabanas, also called guayaberas, are similar to safari shirts. They usually are made of linen and the loose formal wear serves as men’s tropical etiquette in the Dominican Republic. Sully Bonnelly today is creative director for Isaac Mizrahi Sportswear, Eveningwear and Dresses.
The Dominican fashion week will take place from 21-26 October at the Garden Tent and other areas of the Hotel Embajador.
Socrates McKinney, director of DM 2013 said the runway shows would again present the best of quality Dominican design. He described the fashion week as the Caribbean’s leading fashion event. Runway shows will be presented with designs by Leonel Lirio, Jose Jhan, Luis Dominguez, Sissy Bermudez, Giannina Azar, Miguel Genao, Moises Quezada, Jusef Sanchez and Modesta Castillo.
DM is also a fundraising event, with runway ticket revenues going to benefit 40 non-profit organizations.
Now in its eighth year, Dominicana Moda is regarded as the leading platform for the fashion industry in the country.
