The Dominican Film Commission has chosen “Who’s the Boss”, a romantic comedy starring Frank Perozo and Nashla Bogaert to compete for the Oscars’ Best Foreign Language Film in the 86th Oscar Awards Ceremony set for 2 March 2014. This is the third film the newly created Film Commission has chosen to compete in the Oscars. The first film was “Love Child” directed by Leticia Tonos (2012). The second was “Check Mate”, directed by Jose Maria Cabral (2013). The DR has also participated “One Way Ticket” by Agilberto Menendez in 1989 and Nueba Yol by Angel Muniz in 1996.
The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film is one of the Academy Awards of Merit, or Oscars, handed out annually by the US-based Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). It is given to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States in a language that is not English. Unlike other Academy Awards, the Best Foreign Language Film Award is not presented to a specific individual. It is accepted by the winning film’s director, but is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole.
