The Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) has been towing away dozens of illegally parked vehicles in Ciudad Nueva and the neighboring Colonial City, especially around the Palacio de la Justicia and Parque Independencia.
AMET director General Juan Jeronimo Brown Perez said that they would continue to tow the vehicles in these and other sectors of Greater Santo Domingo until drivers realize that they had to obey the law.
Over the weekend of 31 August and 1 September, AMET agents issued 3,211 tickets and towed away 204 badly parked vehicles in Ciudad Nueva and the Colonial City.
AMET said that the most common infractions were obstructing traffic, going through a red traffic light, illegal U-turns, parking on the sidewalk, talking on a cell phone while driving and motorcycle riders without helmets.
