DR vs Paraguay to stay alive in FIBA Basketball

The Dominican men’s basketball team was convincingly defeating Paraguay (ranked 55th) 83-54 in the fourth quarter with 4:23 minutes to go when a blackout interrupted the game. The DR needs that game to edge into the second round of FIBA Americas Championship games taking place in Caracas, Venezuela. Up for grabs are four slots for playing in the FIBA World Championships in Spain next year. The Dominican Republic (ranked 27th) yesterday, Monday 2 September, had lost to Mexico (ranked 32nd) in the FIBA qualifying tournament in Caracas and to Venezuela, on Sunday, 1 September. This is the same team that defeated by 19 points Argentina, ranked third in the world in its first game at the Caracas tournament.
