Up for grabs are four slots for playing in the FIBA World Championships in Spain next year. The Dominican Republic (ranked 27th) yesterday, Monday 2 September, had lost to Mexico (ranked 32nd) in the FIBA qualifying tournament in Caracas and to Venezuela, on Sunday, 1 September. This is the same team that defeated by 19 points Argentina, ranked third in the world in its first game at the Caracas tournament.
