Lack of coordination in government

According to El Nacional, in less than one year President Danilo Medina has put a stop to at least four increases for public services or taxes, which reveals a lack of coordination between government leadership and officials. They include the recent electricity rate increase, the back pedaling on the vehicle tax increase, the RD$20 on telephone bills to fund the 911 system and an increase in water rates.

The newspaper says that these incidents expose a lack of internal communication, and the chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Interior and Police Commission said that the President’s opinion is very important and this is why so many decisions have been reversed.

El Nacional goes on to say that even in education, the failure to complete 10,000 classrooms that were due to be built before the school year started shows a lack of coordination between the Ministry of Education and the President. The President replaced the Minister of Education in response to the delays, but the situation did not improve and Medina has personally overseen several steps of the process.
