The Dominican Alliance Against Corruption (Adocco) is asking President Danilo Medina to revoke the concession contract signed for the operation of the Aerodom airports. Adocco argues that the announcement of US$350 million investment in the airports under the concession is cast as a bait to get the government to bite and accept an extension of the 30-year contract. Adocco says that the contract was irregularly passed to Advent International in a transaction that involved US$400 million despite the fact that the original contract contained a clause that did not allow for the transfer or sales of the shares of the company without Congressional approval, says the report in El Dia.
The general coordinator of Adocco, Julio Cesar de la Rosa Tiburcio rejected suggestions that Advent International seeks to make a bond placement for US$550 million, of which he says US$325 million would be distributed in dividends to Advent shareholders and the remainder would be used to purchase debt taken on for other work, not that of the airports. Adocco called on the presidents of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies to prevent this fraud against the Dominican state, as reported in El Dia.
A report in Diario Libre today, Friday 6 September looks into complaints from the Airlines Association following increases in airport charges and deficiencies in services at Aerodom-operated airports.
Aerodom has announced it would invest US$355 million to build a hotel, convention center, and improvements at the airports when requesting an eight-year extension of the contract.
