President Danilo Medina broke ground yesterday, Wednesday 11 September for the construction of the Hotel Real Intercontinental Santo Domingo on Winston Churchill Avenue. The hotel will be built by the POMA Group and their hotel division from El Salvador, Real Hotels & Resorts. The 227-room hotel, which will be built on Winston Churchill Avenue and Porfirio Herrera Street, is scheduled to open in 2015.
The group reports the investment will be US$70 million. The company said the construction will create over 1,000 new jobs and once the hotel opens there will be new jobs for 270 people. The company already operates the Quality Hotel Santo Domingo near the Las Americas International Airport.
