First Lady goes to Portugal and USA

The First Lady, Candida Montilla de Medina left for Portugal last night, Tuesday 17 September, on the invitation from her Portuguese counterpart, Maria Alves da Silva Cavaco Silva. Her agenda includes the signing of an inter-institutional agreement with a Portuguese center for children with special needs. The First Lady, who is giving priority to the Special Needs Integrated Care Centers (CAID) to help disabled children in the DR, will meet with the director of a similar center, Centro Diferencas, Miguel Palha. The institution serves around 4,000 children in Portugal. The first CAID will open in Santo Domingo this year, and a second is under construction in Santiago.

The First Lady will then travel to the United States to meet with representatives from the Dominican community in New York and other cities. The First Lady is traveling with her personal assistant Luz Marina Alvarez, head of security Alberto Sandoval, Presidency press officer Rafael Ovalle, and international affairs advisor, ambassador Miguel Reyes.
