The Attorney General of the Republic Francisco Dominguez Brito has banned the Chief of Police and the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) from publishing photographs of alleged drug dealers, fugitives or anyone in trouble with the law, until a sentence has been handed down. In a letter to the Police chief and the head of the DNCD, Dominguez Brito asked the commanders to refrain from publishing photographs until the cases are concluded. He also asked them not to classify any suspected drugs by name until they have been analyzed by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences. The AG said that article 11 of the Organic Law of the Justice Department establishes that during the investigative phase the personal details of a suspect such as a photograph are not to be shared with third parties and the officers have the obligation to be discreet. Apparently, this letter is the result of a press conference held by the DNCD announcing the detention of 12 people as suspects after the agency found over half a ton of drugs, suspected to be cocaine and heroin.
