Three bodies found in cane field

National Police investigators are working on the hypothesis that the incident in which three men were shot to death in the community of Yaguate was an act of revenge or a triple murder for personal reasons. The police identified two of the three bodies at the scene – National Police Sergeant Major Luis Mendez Sepulveda and Juan Abraham de los Santos Rodriguez, 62. Mendez was posted at the Yaguate Police station and De los Santos was described as “a respectable member of the community, who was loved by everyone.” The third body is yet to be identified and it was said that the body was dumped on that spot several hours before the police sergeant and De los Santos Rodriguez were killed. The unidentified body was found in a state of decomposition.

A burned-out pickup truck, a red Daihatsu truck and several bags of clothing were also found at the scene. This last element has led the Police to think that someone tried to carry out a sort of “take down” on the drug traffickers operating in the area and used remote areas to conduct illegal transactions. In fact, the three bodies were found inside the sugarcane fields that belong to the CAEI sugar mill some three hundred meters from the local highway. Some newspaper reports said that the sergeant major and the truck driver (de los Santos Rodriguez) may have been killed because they witnessed the body being dumped at the scene.
