Major changes at drug control agency

Following the arrest of Lieutenant Colonel John Liriano Sanchez for alleged links to a drug hit man, the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) announced several changes in the chain of command and their main departments on Tuesday 24 September.

Although Major General Julio Cesar Souffront Vasquez described the changes as simply routine, they have affected all the main departments and divisions at the DNCD’s Santo Domingo headquarters on Maximo Gomez Avenue as well as Las Americas and Punta Cana airports and several regional centers including San Francisco de Macoris, Santiago and La Altagracia.

Air Force Colonel Francisco Hidalgo Tous has been appointed to the Central Investigations and Coordination Division (CICC) replacing Army General Eduardo Valentin Manin Liberato, who has asked for a medical discharge.

Colonel Luis Temistocles Mejia Reynoso, also from the Air Force, will take over the command of the Occupation Division, replacing General Roberto Abreu Pena, who was retired by the Executive Branch in early September.

Since he took over just over two months ago Major General Souffront Vasquez has introduced several changes in the DNCD, including the dismissal of Lieutenant Liriano Sanchez who had held more than 10 key positions in the organization under the leadership of Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo.

Most of the new appointments are of Air Force and the Army members, while the dismissals largely involve members of the National Police.
