The International Contemporary Dance Festival opens today, Wednesday 25 September with the performance by the Japanese group, Miyako Kato Dance Space at the Bellas Artes Theater in Santo Domingo. The Edanco Dance Festival will be held from 25 September to 7 October. After the inauguration, contemporary dance companies from Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Colombia, Italy, Spain, El Salvador, Guadeloupe and Martinique will perform. The event is being sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the Centro Cultural de Espana and the Edanco Foundation. Edanco director Edmundo Poy says that this year they will be paying homage to Olga Espaillat, first ballerina of the country’s first Ballet Academy in the 1940s.
