Luguelin Sanchez calls for repair of main track

Dominican Republic’s silver medalist in the 400 dash in the London Olympics, Luguelin Santos is asking President Danilo Medina to provide the funds for repairing the track of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center’s Felix Sanchez Stadium. He said the conditions of the track make it difficult for training and competitions. The runner made the comments on the “La Semana Deportiva” sports program produced by journalist Hector J. Cruz, as reported in El Dia. He said that repairing the track would make a big difference in the performance of the nation’s best athletes. He said the best athletes risk injuries when training at the Olympic Stadium track or others in the country.

Santos complained there are no good tracks in the country where he can train when he is here. Santos now trains in Puerto Rico.

As reported in Diario Libre, Santos estimated that a good track costs around US$600,000.
