Progress on land titles

The president of the Permanent Commission for State Land Titles (CPTTE), Gustavo Montalvo, has met with fellow commission members and other government officials to check the progress of the National Land Title Plan.

Montalvo said that work has reached an advanced stage and that he hoped to make a public announcement soon on the first mass handover of title deeds for landowners and homeowners.

He also said that once the titles were issued the properties could be used as guarantees for loans, or capital to invest across the country.

He recalled that as a title holder the owner had total legal rights to the property, as defined in the Constitution and the law and it would help solve problems of definition of the area of the property and disputes between neighbors.

Agriculture Minister Luis Ramon Rodriguez also attended the meeting, along with the director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) Radhames Valenzuela, Alma Fernandez from the National Housing Institute (INVI), Emerson Soriano from National Property (Bienes Nacionales), Jose Joaquin Dominguez from the State Sugar Company, Maritza Lopez from the Housing and Assistance Institute (INAVI), Bolivar Marte from the land registry office and Jose Dantes Diaz, the Executive Director of the Commission for Title Deeds.
