Dominican gymnast Yamilet Pena, 20, placed seventh in the World Gymnastics Championship in Antwerp, Belgium on Saturday 5 October. She first made news when she finished sixth in her event in the London Olympics. In Antwerp, she registered a final score of 14.683 in the vault event.
Eduardo Rodriguez of the Gymnastics Federation said that while Pena did not do better, she has maintained her position in the elite group of eight finalists in the event. No other Latin American athlete qualified for the finals. Pena is ranked 49th in the world.
