La Romana Ball Park gets facelift for new season

Baseball fans staying in La Romana and who want to see the passion Dominicans have for baseball will be delighted to hear that the city’s Francisco Micheli Stadium has been spruced up and is even better than before. As reported in El Caribe, the ballpark playing field was improved with new Bermuda grass and the installation of a computerized underground grass watering system, similar to that used in golf courses. The front of the stadium is also getting a facelift.

The president of local team Los Toros, Luis Emilio Rodriguez said: “We are keeping the promises we made when we accepted the presidency of the board”. He had promised that new changes would benefit the players, employees, visiting teams and the faithful fans. The Francisco Micheli stadium is the only private ballpark in the country. It is owned by the Central Romana, which also owns Casa de Campo, the international airport and the cruise port in La Romana.

The ballpark will now even have its own laundry for washing the team uniforms. New lighting has been installed, the roof has been redone, and the administrative offices have been improved. The dressing rooms have new lockers and there is now an area for hydro massages.

The fans will be pleased with the improvements in the parking area, where the team promises better security for the parked vehicles. The renovations began in May and the stadium is expected to be ready for the first game on 18 October.
