The Higher Electoral Court (TSE) has turned down an appeal by the Mayor of La Romana Juan Antonio Adames Bautista, saying that the action taken by the city councilors in La Romana to suspend him from his post was legal and did not violate his fundamental rights.
The councilors suspended him for a series of alleged financial irregularities and replaced him with the Deputy Mayor, Maritza Suero. Investigations into the irregularities are continuing.
