Speaking during the launch of a campaign by the Presidential Committee for National Pharmaceutical Policies (COPPFAN) to end the sale of fake medicines and the contraband of medicines, governmental consumer protection agency ProConsumidor director Altagracia Paulino warned that blood pressure meds, analgesics and sexual stimulants are often falsified. She said they were being adulterated with sugar, water, oil, chalk and several types of artificial colorings.
She said that this criminal act was putting consumers’ health at risk.
She urged consumers to purchase the pharmaceuticals certified by the Ministry of Public Health and the ones sold at the government pharmacy (Promese) chain.
