The Center for Advanced Medicine Diagnostics, Medical Conferences and Telemedicine (Cedimat), the privately operated Dominican government hospital located at the Plaza de la Salud complex, and the Montefiore Medical Center in New York have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at increasing services for Dominican heart patients. Cedimat’s soon to open Cardiovascular Center will operate under Montefiore’s jurisdiction. Signing for Cedimat were medical director Dr. Jose Rafael Yunen, education director Dr. Eddy Perez Then, and engineer Juan Jose Medrano, medical quality coordinator. Cedimat general director Milagros Urena, Dr. Yunen and Dr. Philip O. Ozuah, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Montefiore Medical Center signed a letter of intent.
The strategic alliance will operate under the slogan “Cedimat inspired by Montefiore.”
Cedimat’s new heart center will benefit from Montefiore’s experience and knowhow in patient care, education and administrative matters. The letter of intent highlights the importance for the Dominican Republic of developing a center of excellence in the management of heart ailments that are the leading cause of death in the country. It points out that the alliance will boost medical tourism and research, education and training of health staff.
The alliance will also serve to catalyze the previous actions taken by the Dominican government and Montefiore to prevent and remedy without cost health problems that affect Dominicans in New York who will also be able to benefit from the Cedimat Cardiovascular Center if they fall ill while in the Dominican Republic.
