DR defeats USA, but loses to China in FIVB volleyball

The Dominican Republic won the silver medal at the FIVB Women’s U23 World Championship that took place in Tijuana, Mexico, on Sunday, 13 October. The DR gave China a tough battle for the gold, losing 25-21, 25-20 and 26-24. The Dominican women’s volleyball team defeated the United States on Saturday, 12 October (25-21, 25-21, 27-25) to qualify for the final, showing how powerful a team they are.

Coach Marcos Kwiek spoke proudly of the team: “It’s difficult to talk when you lose, but this silver medal has a great value for us. As a small country we finished ahead of the really big ones like USA, Japan or Brazil. These girls have worked hard during these years. Congratulations to China,” he said, as reported by Norceca. Dominicans Brayelin Martinez, Jeoselyna Rodriguez and Brenda Castillo made the all-star team of the championship.
