In his 58th surprise visit to rural communities across the country, which took place over the weekend of 12-13 October, President Danilo Medina promised dozens of fishermen in San Pedro de Macoris that he would help them to expand and improve the fishing industry in the province. He said that they should organize themselves into associations or cooperatives in order to be eligible for government loans.
He also promised to expand an orphanage for children with HIV/AIDS in Batey Porvenir, a sugar cane workers’ community in the province. There are 105 children in the orphanage but only enough food for 54, so Medina instructed the Presidential Social Plan to provide them with enough food.
The President was accompanied by Presidency Administrative Minister Jose Ramon Peralta, Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo and provincial Governor Felix de los Santos Lebron.
