The Dominican Organization of Blind People (ODC) is calling on the city government to clear up the obstacles on the sidewalks. A group of blind people held a protest march along Av. Abraham Lincoln to the City Government (ADN) calling for the government to make city sidewalks safe for the blind. He said they have suffered injuries from obstacles that include signs, electrical wiring, parked vehicles, manholes and drains, and improvised food stands on the sidewalks. ODC spokesman, lawyer Odalis Rodolfo Rodriguez, who is also blind, delivered a document to secretary general of the ADN, where they propose a meeting to discuss measures needed by the blind to be able to use sidewalks without fear or accidents. They said the city governments of Greater Santo Domingo, the Water Corporation (CAASD) and the Ministry of Public Works should be held responsible for accidents they may suffer when walking on city streets.
