Exporting zapote in power to the US

Dominican zapote producers are exporting dried and powdered zapote to the US to make cereals and smoothies. The Cluster del Zapote in the provinces of Espaillat (Moca) and Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo), which has 516 members, went from being a farm cluster to an industrial one. The producers had been affected by a ban on whole fruit exports to the US, so they found a formula for dry fruit exports with government support. The fruit is now dehydrated so it can be added to cereal. The government is also using the fruit in the drink supplied for the public school breakfasts in Espaillat (Moca). The Cluster says they produce 25 million units that they can now market it in a variety of ways.
