The Fourth Brigade of the National Army posted in Mao has reported the detention of some 170 undocumented Haitian migrants over the past 48 hours. The Haitians were being taken to the city of Santiago. Yesterday, Wednesday 16 October, according to Listin Diario, members of the Army arrested 39 Haitians at the control point of Manga in Guayubin. The two Dominicans who were driving the truck were also arrested. On Tuesday, 15 October members of the 4th Brigade detained another 107 illegal Haitian immigrants and arrested a Dominican who was transporting them to Santiago. At the same time, the Directorate General of Migration repatriated 24 undocumented Haitians who had been stopped by military personnel at the checkpoint at Santiago de la Cruz in the province of Dajabon. Army sources told the newspaper reporters that the 39 Haitians who were detained were 24 men, 14 women and one child. Some of the detainees said that they had planned to live in Santiago, while others said that they planned to find a boat to travel on to Puerto Rico.
