According to Dionis Sanchez, president of the joint committee of deputies and senators that is studying the National Budget for 2014, the government needs to find another RD$1.2 billion to pay for funding the Judicial Branch, Sabana Yegua and Monte Grande dams and the agreed pay rise for public hospital doctors.
He said that Monte Grande is one of the projects receiving most support from legislators, and that Senator Eddy Mateo from Barahona has a list of signatures from almost all of the legislators who support it.
Meanwhile, Treasury committee chairman Tommy Galan is suggesting that the Executive Branch hold off sending the addendum to the Senate for the increase in medical salaries, thought to be around RD$2 billion, until all the other amendments have been considered.
