Legislators’ behavior to be investigated

Presidential Legal Advisor Cesar Pina Toribio says that a demonstration by a group holding signs proclaiming “We Are All Haiti” and that boycotted the speech of President Danilo Medina on Tuesday, 15 October, at the XII Regional Conference for Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, was unacceptable given the legitimate decision made by the Dominican state and it was an embarrassment to Dominicans who supported them.

He said he would not mention names but he as a Dominican would never expect foreigners to show disrespect to the President of the Republic on a subject that is strictly the business of Dominicans.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Deputies disciplinary committee chairman Henry Meran said that they would be investigating the legislators who were involved in recent incidents. They include Guadalupe Valdez who is allegedly one of the women who took part in the demonstration during President Medina’s speech, although she denies it.

They will also investigate Juan Hubieres who was involved in the scuffle outside the National Congress between supporters of Loma Miranda being declared a National Park and opponents of the proposal.
